North bend bans tattoo parlors

Deep in the realms of North Bend, Washington, a recently passed ordinance has wrecked the plans and wishes of one individual in particular, but through him a whole community has been undermined. The ordinance that has been passed, earlier allowed the construction of tattoo parlors and such other businesses, not in the immediate vicinity of the commercial zone of the city, but in an employment park zone in the easternmost edge of the city. North Bend Planning Council did have in mind to allow the activities of one David Herman, who sought to open a tattoo parlor in the city’s commercial zone.

130312_tats_big

Herman was seeking to advantage of a loophole in the law that propounded that although tattoo businesses would not be allowed in the premises of the commercial zones, home based businesses. Herman bought a shop and an apartment above, thus converting his so called illegal business into a legal and credible one. However, the City Council at the last moment did not give their approval of the project, and denied him permission to materialize his plans by issuing an emergency ordinance, that validated the actions of the City Council.

North Bend’s planning and development director Gina Estep, admittedly reported that she did discuss all the disadvantages and problems that Herman might face, if he did go forward with his desired plans. She also told the press that she had held meetings with Herman about other construction related problems, regulations and so on and only then did she inform the City Council as to his proposed venture. The attorney did indicate that Herman’s venture being a home business, it could not be termed as illegal in any way, nor could it be stopped by the power vested in the law.

o

The catch in the plan was when City Administrator Londi Lindell advocated that tattoo parlors, adult entertainments and such types of businesses, were “sensitive” and grey area zones when it came to constitutional settlement. Therefore, in a revision of the previous ordinance, the City Council prohibited David Herman from building his shop, and led to a dramatic chain of events. Other allegations were leveled against him as to the plans not meeting the space requirements, the space limitation of home businesses being no more than 500 sq. ft. This, and everything else, has led to the case being adjourned for a period of 60 days. The ordinance will be laid for review, and further outcomes are still to be known.

Mathew Whelan, Britain’s Most Tattooed Man Legally Changes Name To ‘Body Art’

There are many people who go crazy for tattoos. Even girls are spending lots of money on tattoos to look stylish. This is the reason why he had changed his name legally to body-art. It might be quite interesting, but it is true. This 33 year old person had tattooed the white portion of his eye. Almost 80% of his body is covered with ink, thus he stood as the Britain’s most popular and best tattooed man. Recently he said that it is the body art is the nothing but modifying your body. He is a person who treats his body and god equal, like for Christians the god Jesus, for him his body. Actually, it was his uncle and father’s tattoos which inspired Mathew a lot. His first tattoo is a British bull dog, which he got tattooed when he was 16 years old. Scorpions, snakes, vampires, eyeballs will be the major portion of his body art. He is a person who takes the opinion of the physicians beforehand to avoid the risks involved in the tattooing. Recently he consulted an optician while tattooing the white part of his eye.

Village board repeals tattoo ban

The village of Caledonia recently witnessed official cancellation of an ordinance that led to the official ban of all tattoo establishments in the area. Tattoos are quite in trend these days but the village board had passed an ordinance that imposed an effective ban on every tattoo establishment. This Monday the Caledonia Village board sat again and voted in the favor of repealing the ordinance. This lifting of the official ban is due to the continuous efforts of one person and that is Eve Thielen. Some of the people believe that this decision will result in even less folks opting for traditional tattoos.

Eve Thielen happens to be the owner of a tanning spa in the area which is known as Vacation tanning spa. She has extended an offer to provide services such as cosmetic micro pigmentation plus tattoo removal to the people. According to Eve Thielen she will have all the things required by the coming summer and can extend these facilities by then. One of the new services extended by Eve is tattoo removal and other than that her spa will also extend the facility of micro pigmentation. Cosmetic micro pigmentation is the process in which the process of tattoo making is utilized to apply permanent makeup.

This makeup can be like applying eye liner for life and similar things. Eve Thielen said that she is in need of a supplement source of income as the tanning place is not doing well as it used to. The tanning industry has shown signs of downfall and that is why Eve is looking for alternate measures. She was however shocked to know about the ordinance passed by the village board that lay a ban on the tattoo places. Eve Thielen however considers her services different from that of a typical tattoo parlor.

The Caledonia village board took a unanimous vote on this Monday and reached a verdict to lift the ban they imposed on the tattoo establishments. This new development that came as pleasant news for Eve Thielen will prove to be good news for other traditional tattoo establishments as well. The village attorney Elaine Ekes wrote a letter to the Caledonia village board in which she mentioned that the previous regulation on tattoo places was way too much restrictive and some reasonable restrictions will help in properly restricting the future tattoo establishments to the commercial districts.

The Game gets a Lisa “left eye” Lopes inspired tattoo

Trends keep coming and going and some of them tend to stay and grow even popular with time. Tattoos have been around for quite some time now and their popularity seem to increase with time. Some people consider tattoos and body art as a freak show while there are others who regard them as a unique form of art. Tattoos are also considered as a wonderful medium to express and display one’s personality. Many famous personalities have tattoos that look great and also send a message. Tattoos can be inked in all shapes and sizes and mostly people get them in order to support a cause or as a mode of self expression.

Jayceon Terrell Taylor who is best known as The Game was recently in news for his new tattoo. The Game is basically a rapper and actor who hail from the United States and has made his mark especially in the field of rapping. This rapper makes the headlines for various reasons and this time it is regarding his recent tattoo. The Game has recently got a tattoo that is inspired by none other than Lisa Lopes. Lisa is well known as Left Eye Lopes and she too was a famous rapper who died in a road accident in the year 2002.

Her tragic death left everyone in shock and deprived the music world of a great talent. The Game recently got a tattoo that refreshed the memories of the wonderful rapper once again. This was his way of extending his tribute and respects to the rapping queen. The Game had this tattoo inked on his ribs and posted a picture on instagram account. The popular rapper is also planning to pay his tribute to another departed rapper, Aaliyah in the same manner.

The Game said that he was planning to get a tattoo dedicated to Aaliyah on his other ribs. This gesture to extend tribute is definitely unique and wonderful but the two rappers are definitely worth it. The recent tattoo on the ribs of Game looks spectacular and is inspired from Left Eye’s Dia Le Los Muertos Version. People hope that the next one dedicated to Aaliyah will also be equally wonderful and unique. This tattoo done by The Game comes forward as an inspiration and people will follow his footsteps of getting tattoos of famous people.

Welcome to Florida

I got this from Brandon, mentioned in the previous entry, who owns Foolish Pride in St. Petersburg. It’s a flyer that he found on the street in front of his shop — I’ve censored the studio doing it because I don’t want to drive any business to them. That said, it is an interesting idea, offering an environment where inexperienced people can tattoo each other — I can think of many situations where this could be desired, for example, parents who want their child to tattoo them (which is certainly quite common among children of tattooists, and regular customers or shop friends), or people who want to tattoo or be tattooed by their partner. But to overtly advertise for it? And to do it with this particular wording seems like a recipe for creating legions of kitchen scratchers. What do you think? Great idea? Terrible idea? Good idea done wrong?

bad idea censored

Oh, I can’t resist. After having looked at their portfolio, my suspicion that this is a shop to be avoided were confirmed. I gotta share a few pictures from their published portfolio — the stuff that they presumably think best represents the sort of quality they aspire to. It really blows my mind that shops so terrible that they can’t even get flash right consistently seem to be able to pay the rent. It’s really a testament to how incredibly stupid and devoid of self-respect the average person is that shops like this have no problem luring people in tattoos that emphasize cheap prices over talented artists…

Suspension Scar + Tattoo Job Offer

I got a message from Mike Hill at Broad Street Studio (broadstreetstudio.co.uk) in Bath, Somerset, UK telling me that they’re looking for a new tattoo artist at their studio and asking me whether I’d be willing to post a job ad for him… I told him I couldn’t really do that, but if he could find something interesting for me to post, well, as they say, “one hand washes the other”… So he got me some pictures of a recent scar he did on Tam Smith. Unlike most skin removal scars over tattoos, this is over a Japanese sleeve, rather than over blackwork, and the negative-space it creates interacts with the tattoo rather than standing solo. At first I’d assumed this was a tattoo on a fishing enthusiast, but it’s actually a flesh hook as Tam is part of the suspension community.

If you’re a tattoo artist looking for work (or perhaps even a long-term working vacation in beautiful Bath), get in touch with Mike on Faceobook, or via their shop website. To give you an idea of the sort of shop you’d be stepping into, here’s some work done by Fil, another one of the tattooists that call Broad Street Studio home — that’s Mike’s head top-right (you may recognize it, because Rob featured it back in 2010). Madballs!

I love this Madballs tattoo that Nicky B had done by BobbyT — an old BME friend that some of you may remember from back yard BBQs at the old Queen/Bathurst Toronto BME HQ — at Sleepy Hollow Tattoo in Welland, Ontario. Nicky got this done because he was a big fan of the toys as a kid — each of the Madballs toys came with an official painting (that reminds me a lot of Ed Roth “Rat Fink” hotrod art), and this is one of them.

Rihanna Gets Inked to offer Support to Boyfriend Chris Brown

Rihanna might be one of the most famous pop stars of the present generation but she’s just another hopeless romantic when it comes to the matters of the heart. The 24 year singer recently got a new tattoo on her body to proclaim her support for Grammy-award winning singer, Chris Brown.

According to reports from various media sources, the ‘Diamonds’ singer has got a tattoo stating Brown’s nickname ‘Breezy’ on her skin to cherish her on and off rapper boyfriend. Brown is famous for labeling his rabid army of fans as Team Breezy.

Love in a Hopeless Place

The Sun newspaper quoted a source close to the situation as stating that Rihanna got the tattoo to show the world that she is still deeply committed to him. Now that all of their fans are aware that the couple is back together, the two have made up their minds to make the relationship work at any cost.

The couple had earlier called it quits back in the year 2009 after Rihanna was violently assaulted by Brown. The two young musicians were famous for their notoriously passionate and carefree relationship. But after the physical attack, Rihanna had a restraining order drawn up against Brown who was not allowed to come within a certain distance of her. He briefly dated Karrueche Tran, a model, before dumping her. Rihanna patched up their past relationship and the couple has remained inseparable ever since, with the Barbados-born singer even flying out all the way to Germany to spend some time with Brown while he was on tour. The intimate images the couple regularly post of each other on Twitter is proof enough of the fact that they have rekindled the romance of their past.

Tattoo Mania

Rihanna already boasts of 20 different tattoos on various parts of her body. She considers each of them to have some sort of special significance.  The Bajan hottie last got an ink depicting Isis, one of the most famous goddesses of the Egyptian mythological pantheon, renowned as the symbol of the wife and mother. The tattoo was supposed to have been a tribute to Clara ‘Dolly’ Braithwaite, her late grandmother. Another infamous tattoo is present on her neck simply saying ‘Rebelle fleur’, which, incidentally, is also the name of her perfume brand.

She has stated in the past that all of her tattoos are spiritual and showcases her feelings on religion. She claims to be a rebel through her fashion, music, tattoos and her hair.

The story of tattoo

The new tattoo is hosted on the right side of the neck which is clearly visible most times. the tattoo artist has used a new type of ink in crafting the tattoo. The new tattoo resembles a tribal Aries sighn on the neck of Felix Hernandez. Olmy Rosenstock, one of the most trusted tattoo artist amidst baseball payers is responsible for carrying out this job. Felix seems to be quite impressed with his work as he has only good things to say about Olmy. Many of his friends from the league have also tattooed themselves from this prolific artist. In a recent interview, Felix also mentioned that he was very much inspired by the tattoo detailing of Olmy and this was the main reason behind him getting tattooed. One can clearly see that Felix is quite impressed with the design. This is why he seems to be showing it off at parties and events.

Not the first one

This is not the first tattoo on the body of Felix Hernandez as this player also hosts his sons name tattooed on his body. The tattoo shows his sons name Jeremy on his left wrist.  The right wrist hosts the name of his daughter.  Felix has been known for his style statements and the tattoo reflects his passion for style. He is one of the few players in the baseball arena who have achieved so much in such a little time.  His passion for style and his game seems to be a never ending business.

Scarlett Johansson shows off lucky Horseshoe Tattoo

Actress Scarlett Johansson is totally smitten by her new found love. Seems the petite beauty is all over in love with her new horse shoe tattoo. Not only is she in love with it, she feels that tattoo is her lucky charm kind of sorts. The Hollywood actress is so much excited about this tattoo of hers that she lifted her top in full public view on the street just to show the tattoo. This act of hers must have surely shocked the pedestrians passing by. But does she care? It does not seem so.

All about the Horse Shoe Tattoo

The shocking act of the actress lifting her top on the streets of Paris gave photographers a full and close view of her lucky horse shoe tattoo. But from the review it seems it is not a very fine piece of art. The tattoo seems to be quite wanky and not at all symmetrical. The writing is quite messy and seems as if a child in nursery has written it. It is indeed, quite unruly. No matter what ever the reviews the actress it seems is feeling quite lucky after having the tattoo inked. The tattoo even reads ‘Lucky you’. It’s surprising as to why and how the tattoo has such an unfinished and asymmetric look. The tattoo was designed and personally executed by renowned French Graffitist and tattoo artist Fuzi Uvtpk. Scarlett visited the artist’s exhibition on her visit to Paris. She so much liked his work that she immediately decided to get inked.  She requested Fuzi to create a body art for her after visiting the exhibition.

110812_scarjotattoomore

It seems this beautiful actress has a fetish for tattoos. It is not the first time that the actress has gone under the needle for a body art job. Interestingly, this is the fourth tattoo she has got inked on her body. She already has 3 body arts inked on different areas of her body. The actress has a landscaped tattoo on her arm. There is an ‘A’ written on her ankle. And the finale is the one on her wrist; she has ‘I Heart New York’ inked on her wrist. It seems the actress love for tattoos is just unending. This is one girl who is a true Hollywood celebrity and fashionista. What else otherwise could explain her love for tattoos and getting inked so often?

Romney Tattoo No Cause for Regret

Supporting the losing side in the race for political ascendency may seem to be hard enough, but a certain supporter of US Governor, Mitt Romney, boasts of a permanent reminder of the unsuccessful presidential bid of the Republican.

Eric Hartsburg seems to have made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The Indiana resident in a show of loyalty went out and got the logo for the Romney campaign tattooed right on his face.

In spite of the loss of Romney in the US presidential elections some weeks ago, Hartsburg claims that he has no regret. In an interview with politico.com, the 30 year year-old Hartsburg stated that he was a tattoo enthusiast. The experience, according to him, was nothing short of fun.

Tale behind the Tattoo

Hartsburg was very clear in expressing his motives – he was just attempting to add a bit of fun to politics. He had no intention of changing lives. He has no intention of being a hero; however, he shed his blood for the sake of the campaign and simply knowing that he did everything he could to make the campaign a success makes him very happy.

tattoo_2_edited_20121114104607_320_240

The tattoo was definitely a surprise for members of his family. The professional wrestler was careful not to make any mention about the tattoo to his wife, another Romney supporter, until he had about an hour left to get it done. Hartsburg admits that she was taken aback by the idea from the get go. But, Hartsburg gained support from unlikely quarters – his 15 year-old son. It appears that the cool idea of getting a tattoo done on the face appealed to the young boy.

Dealing with Defeat

Hartsburg does not make any attempts to hide the fact that the defeat of Romney at the hands of incumbent President, Obama, left him extremely disappointed. Hartsburg jokes that he was the guy who had egg all over his face. Only, instead of egg, it happened to be a large Ryan/Romney tattoo. The tattoo will remain inked on his face for life.

The Republican held hopes that the tattoo would lose its relevancy only after a period of four years had passed. But he is quick to claim that he will not be either removing or covering up the tattoo, which he calls the “R masterpiece”, etched onto his face.

Hartsburg has reason to believe that the tattoo may come in handy in another four years when Marco Rubin will run for presidency in 2016.

Tattoo Artists Use Skin-Coloured Ink to Hide Scars

Tattoos existence is almost as old as the civilization itself. Earlier it was used as a way to segregate different tiers of the society or identify criminals. In the modern world tattoo is more of a style statement. Tattoos have gained popularity the world over like never before and most of the celebrities love to flaunt tattoos on various visible and not so visible parts of the body. For the present generation getting a tattoo done is more about being fashionable and a style statement of sorts. Be it India or abroad tattoos have been around as a popular fashion statement for almost a decade now and the popularity only seems to grow bigger by the day.

Tattoo’s used as a Cosmetic

Well it is strange but true. There are many people out there who want to get tattooed but do not want it to be visible. Before you get more confused, let me clarify the air. Many people are really not into getting a tattoo made. But the modern advanced tattoo technology helps these people hide scars that have been there because of an accident or a surgery. Interestingly, there seems to be a skin coloured tattoo ink. It’s believed by those who love tattoo art that tattoo is a unique thing and someone having one is equally unique. However, there are some who get tattoos done to hide scars. These are usually skin coloured tattoos which are not visible and are more popularly known as ‘Medical Tattoos’.

Medical Tattoos a solution to Cosmetic Problems

These medical tattoos are basically made using permanent cosmetic pigment and not actual tattoo ink. The nearest camouflaged colour is mixed to blend with the skin colour and texture. This is then applied on the area where the skin is under pigmented or has lost its colour. Besides, these medical tattoos help deal with a whole lot of cosmetic problems.

  • It is used by many to cover up scars that have developed in the exposed parts of the body due to an accident or a surgery.

  • It is also helpful in blending skin areas that have been discoloured because of vitiligo.

  • They also used to replace eyebrows and lashes lost due to alopecia.

  • These tattoos can also be used to modify parts of the body that have been damaged due to cancer.

Tattoos which are done to recreate parts of the body lost during cancer treatments are reconstructive in nature. A regular follow up needs to be done.

Facebook Tattoo Results Jail

Gang Member Uploads Tat Pic on Facebook, Lands in Jail

A Facebook post with a graphic tattoo aimed at a police officer in Minneapolis has landed a man from St. Louis in jail. The attorney at Hennepin County pressed charges that the tattoo put by Antonio Frasion Jenkins Jr. on his arm and on Facebook was part of a terroristic threat against the Minneapolis officer.

The charges were contested by the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota, Chuck Samuelson. He claimed that in the United States of America, they have a Bill of Rights, which often proves to be messy. Samuelson claimed that while the images are clearly disturbing and disgusting, they cannot be considered criminal.

According to the criminal complaint, the tattoo inked on the left bicep of Jenkins portrays a man armed with a semi-automatic handgun, with the barrel of the gun partially inside the mouth of a pig. The tattoo includes the misspelled name of the officer along with his badge number. An expletive meant for the police is included within the artwork. Jenkins’ page on Facebook includes a post carrying a message on the tattoo that reads: “My tattoo iz a pig get’n his brains blew out”. The criminal complaint states that 18 persons gave a “like” or “thumbs-up” response to the post.

The complaint revealed that the 22-year veteran police member happens to be a member of the gang investigation team centered around the Third Precinct, a portion of the city that comprises of territory claimed by the Bloods for the sake of tradition. The officer saw the post on Facebook on the 30th of October and considered it to be a direct threat against his life. Additionally, the complaint claims that his family is in fear.

Implication: Prior Misdeeds

Jenkins has been charged with terroristic threats which carries a penalty of almost 5 years in prison along with a fine of up to $10,000.

Police halted Jenkins on Monday and witnessed the tattoo posted on Facebook. As per the complaint, Jenkins admitted to the police that he was furious with the officer for an incident that took place back in the month of August. The incident details are not clear. The complaint mentions a separate incident that occurred on the 30th of September where graffiti was found inside an apartment normally used by the Blood street gang members. The graffiti uses an indecent expletive prior to the name of the officer. Jenkins had apparently bragged about his tattoo to another gang member via prison phone call.
